Summer adventrues Chapter #2...4th adventure

Manti pagent...

We stayed the night at Temple view RV and camping...this was the speed limit through the campground. I thought it was blog worthy, haha

We ate dinner at a small pizza place. It was pretty good.

Then of course I saw something else that was blog worthy...check it out...and if any of you great people decide to take this challenge...make sure to blog about it, cuz I wanna see someone do this.

Just outside of the Manti Temple grounds they had a piano...just sitting in the road. They wanted people to play it...so of course my kids did.

We had to get a few pictures with some of the cast members.

It was a great adventure...I hope my kids always remember it.

Summer adventrues Chapter #2...3rd adventure

Tim Hawkins comedy show!

I can't even remember how we found out about Tim Hawkins, but we have been watching him perform on YouTube for at least a few years. He is a great comedian...his material is very clean AND funny! We have wanted to see him perform live for a really long time. But his tours never came to Utah. Well this year it did. We bought tickets back in January and had to wait patiently for 6 months :) My older sister and her husband are also huge fans, so they double dated with us.

Jennifer has some "come hither" eyes in this one...haha

The sistas...

My date...

At one point Shawn was actually crying because he was laughing so hard.

Totally worth the $15 ticket price...we will go again the next time he comes to Utah. And did I mention it was held in a Calvary Chapel? That in it self was interesting...just one picture of what the inside of their church looked like.

Yep...it was awesome! Soooo....go check out Tim Hawkins on YouTube and be ready to laugh :)

Summer Adventures Chapter #2...2nd adventrue

Girls Camp!

I got recruited to help out with girls camp this year. Our value was Choice and Accountability. We had a scriptures hero also, we chose the 2000 Stripling Warriors.

This is our group...all clean and nice smelling :)

It is even more fun to go to Girls Camp when you have a daughter there with you. We really did have a great time together.

They suggested we have full brimmed hats for the 5 mile hike...so we wore twiner ones, haha.

We hiked up a mountain called "Mount Baldy". Can you see that radio tower, far, far away? We were up there.

This is the real view...from the zip line up to the radio tower. What a hike!

We both did the zip line too.

Miss. P just getting unhooked from the zip line.

2 of the other leaders and me doing the zip line.

Gotta love our orange headbands and orange socks...they were in honor of one of our leaders.  She is terrified of ticks...so we got orange socks (to go along with our value color) and told the girls "These are your Choice and Accountability socks. Just like the 2000 stripling warriors wore armor to protect themselves, you need to wear these sock s to protect you from ticks"...they ROCK!!!

Our Bishopric also wore their cool socks.

Miss. P with hers on.
Some random fun pics...enjoy.

And the final picture before we came home.
One regular...

One silly...

Summer Adventures Chapter #2...1st adventure

How else would the Ashby family start off the summer...a concert!!!!

And of course it had to be with our favorite band...J.Wride. But this time we invited 41 of our friends to come and enjoy our little obsession. Let me know if you want to come next time, the more the merrier :)

It was the first time we have seen a concert at the Riverton Rodeo arena, but the weather was good, the music was good, and the food was good....but our hind ends were a little sore from the hard bleachers.

Miss. K was worried it would rain on us...it didn't.

These are the cute, giggle girls that all rode in the van with me...they were fun :)

And of course... a picture with the band...their fave!!!

Stay tuned for more Summer adventures...it will be an epic summer baby!

Gak

Trying to keep 5 kids (my 4 plus the little girl we babysit every day) busy during the summer can be a challenge. Each of the kids has their own calender to fill with things they want to do i.e. go to the park, do a craft, that kind of thing. One of the activities they wanted to do was make Gak :)

I got the recipe online and we made 2 batches. The ingredients ask for "Borax" I have never even seen that in the store. Hint: it is in the laundry detergent isle. This was super easy to make, the kids did all of it by themselves. It took about 10 minutes and they have been playing with it for hours.

It cost under $5 to make 2 batches...here is how to make it...enjoy!

Materials

  • Elmer’s Glue® (8 oz bottle of Elmer’s Glue-All)
  • Borax (a powdered soap found in the grocery store)
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Plastic cup (8 oz size works well)
  • Spoon
  • Measuring cup
  • Food coloring (the spice of life)
  • Water
  • Paper towel (hey, you’ve got to clean up!)
  • Zipper-lock bag (don’t you want to keep it when you’re done?)
  • Water

Here’s the easiest way to make a big batch Elmer’s Slime. The measurements do not have to be exact but it’s a good idea to start with the proportions below for the first batch. Just vary the quantities of each ingredient to get a new and interesting batch of goo.
  1. This recipe is based on using a brand new 8 ounce bottle of Elmer’s Glue. Empty the entire bottle of glue into a mixing bowl. Fill the empty bottle with warm water and shake (okay, put the lid on first and then shake). Pour the glue-water mixture into the mixing bowl and use the spoon to mix well.
  2. Go ahead… add a drop or two of food coloring.
  3. Measure 1/2 cup of warm water into the plastic cup and add a teaspoon of Borax powder to the water. Stir the solution – don’t worry if all of the powder dissolves. This Borax solution is the secret linking agent that causes the Elmer’s Glue molecules to turn into slime.
  4. While stirring the glue in the mixing bowl, slowly add a little of the Borax solution. Immediately you’ll feel the long strands of molecules starting to connect. It’s time to abandon the spoon and use your hands to do the serious mixing. Keep adding the Borax solution to the glue mixture (don’t stop mixing) until you get a perfect batch of Elmer’s slime. You might like your slime more stringy while others like firm slime. Hey, you’re the head slime mixologist – do it your way!
  5. When you’re finished playing with your Elmer’s slime, seal it up in a zipper-lock bag for safe keeping.
